How to Deal with Postpartum Hair Loss?

Pregnancy comes with a set of physical and emotional changes in a woman. Despite the side effects, you feel happy. You are creating a new life. It gives your hair lushness and your skin a beautiful glow.

However, once you deliver your baby, estrogen levels drop significantly.


Then comes postpartum hair loss.

You begin to shed hair in locks! But, hey, you need not press the panic button yet.

According to doctors, this hair loss is normal. The sudden drop in estrogen pushes a lot of follicles to the resting phase at the same time. So, hair that did not shed while you were pregnant (because the active phase was long) are shedding now. So, it seems like you are suffering from hair loss problem, but it isn’t a problem.

This hair loss stays for 6-12 months.

Avoid worrying about it. Stress encourages more hair loss. So, just forget about it and enjoy your new motherhood, advise doctors.

Eat a nutritious diet. Your body is recovering from the “huge task” of making a baby and needs ample nutrition. If you don’t eat right, your hair will suffer too.
Use a sulfate-free, keratin-rich shampoo for strengthening hair roots.
Avoid salon treatments like bleaching, perming, and coloring till your hair return to their normal cycle.
Take your supplements as instructed by the doctor, as nutritional deficiencies can hit hair hard.

You must consult a doctor, if your hair loss persists after one year of child delivery. You might need to take one of the top 10 DHT blocker supplements, as DHT could be the cause of your persistent hair loss.
